Rural Municipality of Gull Lake No. 139 YEARLY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP POLICY
POLICY STATEMENT
The Rural Municipality of Gull Lake No. 139 is committed to supporting the educational aspirations of local students by awarding an annual scholarship to a deserving graduate of Gull Lake School. The scholarship aims to recognize students who embody the values of rural living, contribute to their community, and have the potential to positively impact our region’s future.
PURPOSE
To establish clear guidelines for the selection, administration, and awarding of the RM of Gull Lake No. 139 Annual Scholarship, ensuring alignment with community priorities and values.
Eligibility Criteria

- Residency and Education:
- The applicant must be a graduating student from Gull Lake School
- Career and Education Goals:
- The applicant must be pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized institution (university, college, or trade school) within one year of graduation.
- Preference will be given to students entering fields that support rural communities, such as agriculture, environmental sciences, trades, healthcare, municipal administration, or rural development.
- Community Involvement:
- The applicant must demonstrate active participation in community initiatives, such as volunteering, leadership roles, or local events.
- Values and Potential:
- The applicant must embody rural values, including hard work, integrity, and resilience, and express a desire to contribute to rural Saskatchewan in the future.
SCHOLARSHIP VALUE
The RM of Gull Lake No. 139 will award a one-time scholarship of $1,000.00 to one graduate of Gull Lake School annually. The amount may be reviewed periodically by Council.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Submission Requirements:

- Applicants must complete the official scholarship application form, which will be handed out by February 28th of that year.
- Applications must be collected and submitted to the RM of Gull Lake No. 139’s office at 1184 Conrad Avenue, Gull Lake, Saskatchewan by April 26th of that year.
Required Documentation:

- A copy of the student’s high school transcript
- A personal statement (500 words) explaining how the student’s academic and career goals align with rural community values and how they plan to contribute to rural Saskatchewan.
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer, or community leader highlighting the student’s contributions to the community and alignment with rural values.
Selection Committee:

- The RM Council will appoint a Scholarship Committee consisting of three councillors.
- The committee will evaluate applicants based on the established criteria.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants will be evaluated based on the following:
- Academic Performance (30%):
- Achievement in high school and readiness for post-secondary education
- Community Involvement and Leadership (30%):
- Demonstrated participation in community activities and leadership roles
- Alignment of Rural Values and Career Goals (40%):
- Commitment to rural values and intention to support rural communities through their education and career.
AWARDING OF SCHOLARSHIP

- Notification and Presentation:
- The recipient will be chosen by Council at May’s Regular Council Meeting and the recipient will be notified by least one week before the Gull Lake School graduation ceremony (Colour Night) of that year and announced during Colour Night.
- Disbursement of Funds:
- Scholarship funds will be disbursed to the recipient upon proof of enrollment.
